Considering a trucking career at 53.
Posted: Fri Oct 31, 2008 10:09:53 AM

I am considering a career as a truck driver and I am 53 years old.  Just like most others, I would like to eventually drive closer to home as a dedicated/milk-run driver. I would also consider a driving partner.

I am also considering enrolling in the Sage Trucking School in my town. Thoughts/comments?

I try to think of  ideas on what kind of hauling I might like to do. I saw a flatbed hauling a military vehicle the other day and thought it might be fun to travel the military circuit if there is such a thing.

I would appreciate any other ideas on what kind of hauling is desireable and what companies are good for a newbie as far as fair treatment, pay and bennefits.  (you know, plenty of yacht time with lots of cold beer.  ;)

Also, what can a guy expect as far as sleepers, bathrooms, showers, entertainment while on the road?

Thanx and good luck to all.

WELL ITS GOT BE WHAT YOU LIKE TO DO

NOW IF YOUR WILLIN TO DO THE IN-TOWN HAULING, THATS A BIT BETTER

I GUESS I WOULD SAY THIS IS MY WAY OF LOOKIN AT IT

GOOD:

PAY CAN BE GOOD

GET TO TRAVEL AND SEE OTHER PLACES

BAD:

AWAY FROM FAMILY

DISCOMFORT (SLEEPIN IN TRUCK, HOTELS ETC, NOT THE FOOD YOU WANT)

AND RIGHT NOW THE PAY ISNT WHAT IT USED TO BE

BUT OVERALL IF YOU LIKE HAULING, ID SAY DO IT.  I FIND IT FUN

HOPE THAT LIL BIT HELPS, ASK ANYMORE IF YOU WANT
