How do you Check Your Tire Pressure by Kicking, a gauge or thumping? and why?

 I thump the tires with a stick if they don't sound right check them with a gauge.

I always use a gauge to check pressure.  As an O/O its important for me to save as much as possible and tires are one of our major expenses. I can do that by making sure I have equal wear  with even pressure as much of the time as possible.
