How to adjust clutch internally. tools needed: regular hand tools and pry bar (clutch adj. tool helps but not necessary)
1) visually check where clutch is beginning to pull load. To do this start truck, put in gear, ease clutch out until you feel truck pulling. Look and see how far pedal is from floor board. This is important to know at the end of clutch adjustment.
2) Under the truck where transmission meets the engine are four bolts. You will need half inch wrench to take these loose. Remove bolts and plate.
3) visually check clutch brake for damage. (clutch brake is located around input shaft and should feel loose on shaft, but should not turn 360 degrees. If the clutch brake turns 360 degrees this could be your problem.)
4) The clutch must be depressed before adjustment. (you may need another person or something to hold the clutch down.) Manually turn engine by the flywheel with the prybar until nut or bolt on face of clutch plate is on the bottom
making it easily accessible, at this point there are two types. type a) spring loaded which involves putting right size wrench on nut or bolt and simply push in and turn counter clock wise. 2 comlete turns of nut or bolt is required type b) remove bolt and clevis pen and turn clockwise motion with prybar about five to six notches. install clevis pen before testing.
5) Make sure clevis pen is back in clutch or spring has popped out on spring loaded type. Restart truck and test clutch. (sometimes the clutch rod needs adjusting after internal adjustment.)
