Volvo with series 10 detroit engine

I am having a lot of trouble with my semi tractor. It just drops down to idle for no apparent reason. Replaced sensor under foot feed, have had wires checked, sensor in transmission replaced, cruise control worked on. Do you have any idea what would make this truck all flat on its face for what seems like no apparent reason? If we mess with it a bit, it straightens out for a few hours or a day or so, then does it again. The foot feed sensor was put in late yesterday, ran fine inside the mechanics garage, but when I got it out on the road, it did the same thing again. Any help, suggestions? willy@ivnet.com

Willy,
I highly suggest you take it to a shop that has diagnostics. It could be several different things that is causing the problem (injector pump, auto or manual shut off on the fuel pump, cruise control, throttle sensor, computer, transmission sensor, jake brake, if one is on the truck, collasping fuel filter or line, cracked fuel tube in the tank)to name just a few. In the long run, it will be quicker and well worth the cost. You'll have the problem solved and be back on the road making money. Then you'll know and not be doing a hit and miss on solving the problem. Let me know what you find was the problem.

Jake,

I do think that he has had it at a shop with diagnostics. But I am sending your response to him. Thanks for responding and I will let you know how this all goes. Will probably be looking at a new/used truck this week-end.

Thank you

Willy

We found out this pm that it is the computer. The guy in Rockford Illinois said about $1500.00. We are checking around, hopefully someone can do it for less. Thanks so much for your response this a.m. We will visit this site regularly. Willy
