Tim Even though I am only in the process of getting my authority please be advised that "the back seat" does NOT qualify as a sleeper. On another board I log onto it has been reported that in Calif. DOT is checking rest areas for hotshots using the back seat for a "sleeper" . Then they are issuing HOS violation tickets and non-conforming sleeper berth tickets. A sleeper berth has to be a minimum of 75" x 24" with 24" clearance above the mattress. A motor vehicle manufactured on or after July 1, 1971, and equipped with a sleeper berth must be equipped with a means of preventing ejection of the occupant of the sleeper berth during deceleration of the vehicle. The restraint system must be designed, installed, and maintained to withstand a minimum total force of 6,000 pounds applied toward the front of the vehicle and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. You may want to check out the FMCSA web at www.fmcsa.dot.gov and then put sleeper berth into the search window. It might save you headaches in the long run. |
