Does anyone know if there is a federal law that prohibits commercial trucks from having tint on the windows? I would like to know where I could find a copy of this law if it exist. I have tint on my windows and don't really want to get ticketed for it. Any info on this is much appreciated. |

All window tint is illegal on commercial vehicles, it is in the little green book. All glass must allow 70% light transmission and that is what "factory tinted" glass such as your windshield and side glass allows. This was proven to me by a Utah State Trooper using a laser light meter. States that will hassle you and ticket you, are Iowa and North Dakota, I haven't had problems otherwise and have even been inspected many other places with no mention of the windows. The tint I have is the 15% which knocks the light transmission down to 55% and is lighter than I've seen on many trucks. Also note that this is not an "out of service" item, and they do not have the authority to make you remove the tint but can only issue a ticket. GOOD LUCK!! This is a regulation that NEEDS to be changed!! |
