Seeking employment ~ recent grad
Posted: Thu Jan 17, 2008 6:20:38 PM

Hello, I registered here in the hope someone might be able to assist me in finding employment driving.

I recently graduated from US Truck School here in SE Michigan and successfully obtained my CDL Class A license.

I am eager to begin a career in this industry but, am finding it difficult as I have a few issues that need to be overcome.

See, I was disabled between 1996 & 2006, this disability has been fully recovered with no lingering side effects or restrictions

The problem comes in that most companies require 3 to 5 years of recent work history and I am unable to honestly show this.

I have worked full-time for the past year driving a Taxi, 12 to 14 hours a day, seven days a week yet, this is not enough to saticfy most companies. I have a return to work release letter that states clearly I have no restrictions and I feel in good health.

How can I get around this requirement of 3-5 years recent work history ?

If you have any info on a company that is willing to give a guy like myself a break, please respond to this post.

hey man I know where u are coming from I have 10 years driving experience but got out of it and let my license go. Quit driving for 6.5 years, thought i would never drive again or need my license some would say dummy me, but to tell you the truth i have found out it didnt matter cause everyone wants atleast 6 months recent, anyway I went back to school and got my license figured I'd get something local but the recent experience is all they care about so I have found that you have to go with a company that takes recent grads like schnieder , werner, swift, us express the big companys that offer training I got a job with schneider in the bulk division cause i have tank and hazmat its dedicated and home 2 days a week  pay between 800 and 1200 week. If your willing to go over the road for 3 weeks to a month at a time I reccommend werner or schnieder best equipment get u home whenever u need to and can stay home a couple extra days without a problem I drove for them when I was over the road for 5 years and i would stay out about month then take home time and just call driver manager and say i needed a couple more days it was fine. just starting with schnieder so really cant give my opinion yet plus im on dedicated locked it in before i signed on. another company if u wanna make great money but dont care about getting home alot is cr england there lease deal is one of the best no money down and no credit check thats where i went back to school and researched the lease alot, and if ur a positive person its a good deal. One thing I will warn you about in this business take advice from the positive drivers there are a few lol most are negative winers about everything and they will not steer you right cause they are never happy. good luck  and be safe.
