PREVOST MTR HOME JAKE BRAKE

I HAVE A 1999 PREVOST MOTOR HOME WITH CUMMINS AND IT HAS A JAKE BRAKE     1 BUTTON TO TURN IT ON AND THE 2 BUTTONS ONE HIGH AND ONE LOW..

 

I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE OF THESE SO I DONT KNOW WHAT I GOT...I TOOK TO TRUCK DEALER AND HE TELLS ME THAT THIS IS BUILT IN TO THE TRANSMISSION ......I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IS NOT RIGHT..AND I THOUGHT THAT IS IS BUILT INTERNAL INTO THE ENGINE....WHEN I ENGAGE IT    NOTHING SEEMS TO HAPPEN AT ALL....THERE IS A SWTICH ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FLOOR LIKE A DIMMER SWITCH..THOUGHT THAT MIGHT  BE WEHRE YOU ENGAGE IT ....BUT NOTHING HAPPENED THERE...ANYBODY EVER HAD ONE OF THESE...GETTING ALL KINDS OF ANSWERS  BUT STILL NOTHIGN WORK  TKS

Robert,
 There are several types of Jake brakes. One is internal on the engine. The other works in the exhaust system. As far as it not doing anything. If the jake brake is working you should be able to hear it. The slowing capabilities of a jake brake are not as dramatic as everyone thinks. Here is jacobs web site,  http://www.jakebrake.com
