I think a better way would be to limit the number of miles each day to 800. For instance, A driver starts his work day at 0800, does a pre-trip inspection of 15 minutes. the driver then drives 240 miles  and decides to stop and eat lunch. After lunch, the driver decides to go to sleep(apparently he ate turkey) when the driver awakens, he drives another 150 miles, and avoids rush hour through a major city by taking another break. at 1800 he starts driving again and drives 300 miles before stopping again for dinner. (hes not very thin) finally the driver drives the final leg of 100 miles, and shuts it down for the day at 2300.

In this scenario, the driver has been safe because he (1) was able to recognize fatigue, and got the rest he needed before continueing to drive. (2) lessened his chances for an accident during rush hour traffic. (3) was under no pressure to drive past the speed limit, and therefor did not tailgate other vehicles. If this would have been done using the current HOS he would have violated both the 11 and the 14 hour rule.

The driver is still required to take a 10 hour break between work days, yet is able to drive when he is more alert, and is under no pressure to keep driving when tired. In my humble opinion, this is the only method which addresses driver safety, the safety of the general motoring public, and the need to move freight in a timely manner. It solves the issues that so many anti-trucking groups are fighting about, and allows drivers to make money without violating laws. If anyone agrees with this method, pls feel free to copy and send to the FMCSA, CRASH, PATT, ATA, and any other group that may interested.

Obviously, we truck drivers have unite and do something about the issues concerning us, otherwise the goverment will stick its ugly head in and screw things up like they usually do. Also, I have begun boycotting the Indiana Toll Road, by using US20, or US30. it may take a bit longer, but At least I am doing my part. Imagine if no trucks used the Toll Road, What would the new owners do? and the state would be forced to take it back. In a world where good values, and morals have all but disappeared, I choose to be different and keep my integrity. thanks for reading this post.

Please, Be a bit more safer on our roads. Use turn signals, dont tailgate, drive a bit slower, and be aware of other drivers on the road.
