Non-Drill/tap spark plug inserts
Posted: Sat Jan 6, 2007 3:16:09 PM

Are there any non-drill/tap spark plug inserts for a gmc 5.3 litre V-8 on the market today ? I don't want to remove the head but don't want any shavings from drilling and tapping to get in the cyl . Or are there any componds that can be used to build threads with plug in place ?

Bring the piston all the way to TDC insert a paper twol or rag into the spark plug hole and let it set on top of the piston. Now use grease from a greas gun directly under the spark plug hole. Any shaving that do go down will be caught by the grease. After you have cut new threads use a telescoping magnet to retrieve any metal. If I were doing this on an aluminum head I would do the same but I would use a screwdriver to fich out the grease with the metal shavings in it. Works great have done it several times. Good luck.
