New Drivers Considering Werner

New drivers considering Werner, be advised! Werner Enterprises states that in it's new driver training program a driver must complete 275 hours of seat time. This process usually takes six to eight weeks. What they don't tell you is this: Although you may have completed the training, you may not be able to get off the training truck and process to a solo driver until sometime after. Many new drivers are being forced to stay on the training truck and "Get In Line" for their own truck. Because of high driver turn over, Werner recruits more drivers than is needed to ensure the fleet is full. During this time you are still paid training wages. Also, you are not eligable for any home time. If after your training is completed and you want to go home, you must take leave of absence and loose your place in line. If after 30 days you have'nt returned, you are considered to have quit. As with what has become common in the industry being half truths and in many cases bold face lies, Werner will not disclose this fact in the beginning of the training process and will most likely completely deny the. But it is happening. |

Consider yourself an indentured servant for 2 to 3 months. You may get lucky and get a trainer who shows a little compassion for your situation, really takes training serious, they are the minority. Most just see you as way to a bigger check. |
