Need your experience and expertise PLEASE!!
Posted: Sun Apr 8, 2012 2:34:10 PM

Hi. My name is Tiffany and I recently started a small trucking company with some money I had along with plenty of loans. I bought new equipment, beautiful new sleepers, etc. I wanted to make the drivers I hired happy. I really think they are taking advantage of the fact I have no "street smarts" when it comes to hauling. For instance, I refuse to "nut" the trucks at a certain speed, because I don't want them to feel like I don't trust them BUT they are KILLING me on fuel. The drivers that I have show up late for load times, sleep-in daily, ask to borrow money all of the time...I want us to have a great working relationship but many of the drivers really walk all over me...

I am wondering if you could PLEASE give me some advice...like Should I nut  the trucks? My drivers lose hours out of every day..I have no idea what takes them hours and hours to make loads when it could take them much less time..Should I get GPS-trackers? Where do I look for decent drivers? I pay them quite well (in my opinion) but I also have them running hard..what would a fair salary be in your opinion? What should I do about drivers calling in sick, taking off, sleeping-in ETC?!!

I don't want to lose any of the trucks. I love the industry and I am learning all I can. I just need some HELP from real truckers that no the ins and outs of the road.

Thank you!!

Tiffany

Check your Ratings:

>>LOSE the whiny, EXPENSIVE, cry baby drivers as they'll only continue to HARM YOUR NEW DEVELOPING REPUTATION and with enough LATE PICKUPS/DELIVERIES, you'll not find many BROKERS that will talk to you or many if any Shippers that will want to risk your services.
>>Turn down your trucks to 70 ON CRUISE, 68 on Pedal.
>>Buy some APUs if possible.
>>Charge these drivers for excessive IDLING TIME.
FINE THESE DRIVERS FOR LATE PICKUP/DELIVERY or just eliminate them altogether.

>>When Companies develop a well known reputation for NOT TOLERATING CARELESSNESS and whiners, they'll only GROW through POSITIVE RESULTS.

>>Most, not all, Companies have their whiners and cry babies and they're easily worked.
The pathetic drivers that have 2+ LATE PICKUPS/DELIVERIES are usually TOSSED ASIDE because they've PROVEN their consistent uselessness.
The ones that can't seem to wake up within a reasonable time to make a ON TIME PICKUP or DELIVERY are worthless and need to go back home to mommy.
The ones that cannot fathom the simplicity of BUDGETING ONE'S MONEY need to go home to mommy.

Just tell them "QUIT YER BITCHIN'. TRUCKING AIN'T FOR SISSIES!!"
