ok russ, these particular message boards do not allow me to "quote" you so i can easily reply to your problems. so, from memory, i will try my best, and here it goes. first, you are right, most lawyers WILL NOT cross state lines, not because they won't, but because they can't. they must be a member of the BAR in any state they wish to practice law. they CAN get hold of an attorney in another state for you, but now you will be paying for 2 (or more) lawyers.........so this being said, you really got a lot more leg work of your own to do. you will have to contact DAC/USIS (i know, again) and you will have to "re-buttle" all the incorrect information about you. now, for information regarding your 14 year old offense, you might be able to have that removed. here's how.....you need to find out if the arrest/jail records can be removed from your state filing system. you will have to go to whatever courthouse you were sentenced in and ask there. there "might be" a way to close those records if they went beyond any time limit according to your state......then again, maybe not, but you got to try this. you might want to try a "free legal service" in your area. speak with them. once you find out if the records can be sealed (due to the age of the time frame), that "free" lawyer might be able to type up some sort of letter for you. then you mail that to DAC/USIS when you send them your re-buttle. you can try just about any local driving job, like class B jobs. some of those do not contact DAC/USIS. its a start for now. i cannot at the moment come up with anything else right now, but i will try different google searches and i will also inquire at the different message board websites i frequent. i'll be back when i can, but in the meantime, try what i suggested. |
