Turnover in the trucking industry is well over 100%. The reason for this is simple. most drivers dont bother to research and find a company that suits them. they move from company to company because this company has a $1500 sign on bonus, or that company promises to get me home on the weekends. Friends, the only way to find a good company is to do research. Start by writing down what you want your next company to offer. Pay, mileage, hometime, equipment, are just a few things to write down. Next, develope a list of companies that service the area where you live, and will most likely be calling home. Third, on your travels, sit at truckstops counter and ask other drivers about the companies they work for. ask about the good and the bad, and basically interview them to find if they are truly happy. Chances are if they arent happy, you wont be either. and dont just ask one driver, ask many of them keep a tally for each company driver you talk with. withn this information, you can probably scratch off quite a few companies from the list of companies you made earlier. Lastly, call the companies left on that list and interview them. ask about the things on the list you made of what you want, and take notes. By following these simple steps, you can find a company that best matches you, and you will be a better, happier driver because of the time you spent researching. My name is Robert Stanton, and I am a company driver for Gordon Trucking, Based in Pacific, WA. but I live in Michigan and my home terminal is in Green Bay, WI. I urge the safe drivers who dont mind being passed on the highway, to contact them at 1-800-426-6010 and ask to speak with the recruiter. And if you care to, give them my driver code of STARO, so I can get the credit. Good luck and happy carrier hunting. By the way, I have been driving for Gordon for 6 months and have yet to find anything to complain about. thanks for reading! |
