I want to get my first Customer

My father have being contracting for a big company for so long and now he wants to go on his own to find freights since there are a lot of red tapes with a new manager on board. We have acquired all the licence and we are looking forward and fighting hard to get our new customer to go with. We are very flexible minority owned company and we will match any competitors rate qoute. We just want to get it started. Any advice and what to do or where to find customers? Also We would like to be doing moving on the side and also be doing general freight. We have a 26'-28' straight truck anout 6 of them and two 53" dry van Trailers.Any advise on where to start? we are looking for any business proposals and contracts. We are located in Maryland .
