Like what type of truck to start with? how to get jobs? how to quote jobs? basicaly the simple things to draw up some sort of plan to take to a bank and try to get a loan. Any help would appreciated.Thanx |

Tom, First of all to be in the dumptruck business you have to own a dump truck, if you try to drum up business without one no one will take you serious. I see alot of business being done at stone quarries, just stopping in with a truck is sometimes all you need. They are always one load short and they seem to need one more person, also I call on a lot of town and state garages and they would rather sub-contract out work to an owner-operator than maintain their own equipment. I am in the leasing business and currently we have over 130 used trucks and its my job to find homes for these trucks. If I can be of any help to you let me know I set up the financing and I can also find the right truck to fit you needs. tom@tscommercialleasing.com 716-778-0616 |

Do you have a CDL? You will need a truck first, then a CA# (contact the DMV) insurance,a place to keep the truck. There are alot of good deals now because alot of guys got into it 2-3 years ago when it was good here in CA and now its slow and they owe so its bye bye time for them. I have a brand new 15 foot demo box with a hoist and everything to mount it for sale at a very good price if you find a good 3 axle tractor you like. Usually it is cheaper to go that route than to buy one already set up as a dump because they are often old and overpriced. As far as finding work its hard but you are in the right area, you just need to get out there and start meeting people in the business. Word of mouth will get you more work than an ad in the yellow pages. If you do it it will be hard as hell at first and tough to make ends meet but stick it out and you will meet more guys and get more contacts and work will bounce back pretty fast in the S.CA(I am in Orange County) area and you should be in a good position by then. If you own a home it is easier to get a loan for a truck but being young and inexp. it will be tough maybe a family member could co-sign or help with a down payment. If you think you are going to buy a truck and hire a driver it wont work, it is just too hard to make it that way. I could write a book but I will stop now, if you might be interested in the box for sale or want a bit more advice try to PM me or respond with your E mail and we can get in touch, good luck. |
