how do you adjustthe 5th wheel jaws

does anybody out know how to adjust the jaws on my 5th wheel they seem to not clamp down enouph on the pin when i put on my brakes the trailer will slide forward and back 1 to 2 inches |

that all depends on the type you have. if your fifth wheel has a large nut on the front of it you turn it to adjust in in or out |

Yes, it depends on which type, some have adjuster on the side sticking out and some recessed in a hole in the side of the 5th wheel-it will be covered with grease probably, and some adjusters are on the front. If you have the front adjusting type, and you cant adjust it any tighter. It may need a jaw kit. Also check your pin on the trailer for wear, they make a template type guage to check the wear on it. |

To adjust the type with the stud coming out the front you need to back the nut off to get the jaws to tighten. If you have that much play I recommend getting the fifthwheel rebuilt NOW! Are you sure it's the jaws and not the bushings where the pivot pins slide through on the sides? |
