hot shoting pulling a trailer
Posted: Mon Oct 24, 2011 1:05:17 PM

Ok me and my boss decided to add on to her gate guard company and let me hotshot making me a partner. She gets 15% for letting me use her company name and all of her customers that will use me. She is also providing the trailers, insurance, all billing stuff. I have the 1 ton dually all ready class a cdl dot physical etc. Seems like a really good idea. I have hot shotted for a couple of companies all ready been in the oilfield awhile. So I was able to come up with an average on what they charge. But I am not sure how to charge for a trailer? Especially since its one way milage. With a trailer do you charge both ways? Those 30' goosenecks can way alot. Also how is the fuel surcharge figured out. I figure its still around .40 a mile. From what I can tell it just all depends on where ur going. Like the further you go the lower the per mile fee. So I just took an average of both companies. Which is around 2.15 per mile plus fuel charge? Any advise on pricing is greatly appriciated. And no I dont need another company taking there cut to find me loads I will have more work than I can handle!

Hello sarsmassi!

General hot shot rates for pulling a trailer typically range from $1.25- $1.45/mile + FSC.

I hope this helps!

It is all cost based. if you can get over $2.00 a mile good luck! Figure what you pay per mile to run, maintiance expences, food, motels if used, the 15% then you have what you need to do business. Add to that proffit. -- BK
