Just by pulling the valve cover you won't be able to see a leaky injector. The tip/nozzle of the injector sits down inside the head and just barely sticks through the head into the cylinder where the piston goes up and down (Not visible unless you remove the head and flip it over) Injectors usually  leak from the nozzle tip and then the fuel usually passes the cylinder rings and leaks into the oil pan. If you have a lot of fuel leaking from the injector it'll thin the oil and cause  lubrication problems like bearing failure( don't let the oil get to thin). This is a very big job your trying to tackle if you have no experience. You may want to take it to a certified Caterpillar repair facility.  Hope this helps, Gary.
