Getting a job with a misdemeanor:
Posted: Thu Aug 30, 2007 7:54:51 AM

I got a misdemeanor three years ago, fleeing to elude on a dirt bike. (It really was a big misunderstanding) but the judge didnt want to hear about it. I work a government job (Space Center) and they had no problem with the incident after I explained myself, (and they stopped laughing), but when I applied for a truck driving job, they said their policy was no misdemeanors within five years. Is this the norm with trucking companies and do I have to wait two more years? I was 40 years old at the time and It was my first offence. It was not traffic related and did not affect my CDL. I need some answers. Thanks

A Drunk Driving conviction carries a waiting period of 5 to 7 years and it is only a Misdemeanor as well.
MOST companies are not in charge of hiring as the INSURANCE companies are in charge of who gets hired where.
We actually indirectly work for the Insurance companies.
It is a sad thing, but you may have to wait.

Since you're in the Space Industry WHY DO YOU WANT TO STEP DOWN TO TRUCKING??
Do you like being gone from home a lot as in Over The Road or are you wanting Local work??
Either way you'll have to go through some companies' training program or go to some over priced "school", WHEN you are allowed to do so by the Insurance company/ies.
There IS NO POINT in acquiring training for trucking w/out a confirmed ability to actually apply the training.
