Fuel Surcharge
Posted: Thu May 27, 2004 5:31:34 AM

I'm an owner/operator, and I am leasing my tractor/trailer and myself to a carrier. I need to know if I can submit a fuel surcharge to the carrier.

Big Red,
The carrier you are leased to should have a fuel surcharge in place and active with the price of fuel right now. The carrier must implement it to their customers. You cannot and you cannot to the carrier. Also for your information. An owner operator is due 100% of the compensation for a fuel surcharge, not a percentage like the revenue from a load. My suggestion is if your carrier doesn't have one or won't put one in effect. You look for a new company or don't haul any freight that doesn't have a fuel surcharge accompaning it. The price of fuel is to high to operate with out one right now.

PS: Our surcharge is 11% right now.
