Frtlnr Cntry Cls Steering column.
Posted: Sat Oct 20, 2007 12:48:26 PM

Hello ALL,

I have a '01 Freightliner Century Class with over 725K miles and just recently the Steering Column has decided (like it has a brain) to discontinue Telescoping. It is currently stuck in the down position.
It will still move forward towards the panel and back again.
I've spoken to a Freightliner mechanic however he stated merely the Labor rate w/o the part cost included.

Anybody here in these Forums ever have this problem and how was is solutioned??

Thanks to ALL  for whatever answers regardless!!

The steering colimn in question was fixed today at a Freightliner Dealer by simply replacing the WHOLE steering Stem inside the Cab.
Apparently it is more involved to r & r the defective part than simply paying about $1400.00 for a new complete unit.

That's Trucking for ya.
