Tony,

Your answer is to broad and I do not have enough information to answer that question. You need to dig in and work the figures and make that decision, only you can do that. As a rule, you buy to build equity. You lease if you save money or if you need deductions, its one way or the other when you lease.

well scott heres the whole story iv'e been hauling garbage for ten years with a rolloff truck which is the same as a dump truck ,well not exactly but they do the same thing,I take home 900.00 to 1000.00 per week iv'e out grown this salery, Its been the same for the last 8 years so by your reply i know i should lease because money is tight' Iv'e checked gravel companies, road contruction companies, and the railroads their all looking for o/o's, So in your personal experience do you think my switching from my safe job[which none are] to becoming a o/o is a latteral move, a bad move, or a good move, by the way the median salery offer to hire my truck has been 65.00 per hr. the lowest is 55.00 and hell i dont even have the truck yet, please share with me some of your knowledge about the industry the ways and the types of money that can be made thanks,

Tony,
Rates sound reasonable. Depends on how far your running though. Get them to put it in writing(contract) for the term of your financing the equipment and go for it! Plan on working at least five days a week year round. You'll should make a good living.

Tony,

I did forget to mention with out knowing more that when its all said and done. What you are making now is about what you will make as an owner operator on that job.

Where can you go to find loads? I live in the Atlanta area as well. I was considering the same move but I wanted a little more insite as to where I can find the loads to dump.
