Hi, My name is Sandee. I have several friends and family members who are drivers, or are married to drivers, and a common theme I hear in their stories is what a difficult and sometimes lonely life it can be. My background is in social work and counseling....I help people, with whatever it is they might need. So, as I'm driving on the highway and I see how many trucks are out there, I can't help but think to myself.....there needs to be someone these guys, and ladies, can call if they need help with something. Maybe you're days from home but need medical or dental attention and aren't sure where to go. Maybe the strain of being on the road so much is taking a toll on your relationship or maybe you just need someone to talk to. Whatever the reason, wouldn't it be a good thing to know all you had to do was call and there would be someone on the other end saying, "Hi, how can I help?". I'm looking into the possibilities of starting such a service, a driver support line, and I'd be interested in any feedback you have. Do you think it's a needed service, one that would be used? What do you think the best way to get started would be? I've approached about 5 of the top trucking companies but they don't seem all that interested in providing this service to their drivers. And, financially, how would you set it up? Charge a fee only if the service is used, like a 900 number? Or a one time fee and the service could be used as often as needed, a membership?
