what do we need to legally cross a state line? we are a mainly an intrastate conveyered aggregate company. we currently won a bid in california, our home base is in AZ. Do we need MC/DOT #'s to perform this job or temporary permits and where do we obtain such information?

Maricky,
Sorry, for the delay on replying to your message. I went wireless and had problems. To answer your question. To the best of my knowlewdge you do need a MC/DOT# to preform this job. The only exclusion that I know of is gas/oil related or engery companies. You can double check this information at www.dot.gov

you can get trip permits at CA point of entry, but seems that it would be easier to simply apply and get your own authority

You can secure motor carrier authority, single state registration, IFTA, HUT, KYU, OR & NM permits, trip permits, ect. through www.dotauthority.com.

If you're new to getting your authority, you might also consider attending a two-day Trucking Success Workshop for new carriers which covers finding shippers, freight rate development, contract negotiations with shippers and brokers, sales and marketing and safety compliance. The instructor is a former DOT investigator/USDOT-licensed Practitioner certified in Motor Carrier Safety regulations. Call 888 414 1874 and ask for Phil or Melissa.

you need interstate authority to transport regulated property for hire across state lines. MC & USDOT Number is required. You will need a CA Number if operating point to point within CA. Temporary permits pertain only to IRP & IFTA. Call DOTAUthority.com at 888 414 1874 with any questions.
