What is the difference between a hotshot and a independant operator?

 The term hotshot came out of the oil industry. it was used to decribe a carrier that ran parts/supplies to oil wells. Over time the term hotshot has been adopted by pretty much anyone that runs the smaller trucks hauling lite or ltl loads.

 

A Independent Owner Operator is someone that owns and operates his own equipment. For instance a truck driver that drives his own truck.
