curious with a couple questions
Posted: Mon Apr 20, 2009 7:38:22 PM

what is the most used trailer length that guys are using and what type,i been told mostly 35',lowboys,but seems to me to get more options in freight,i would be a dovetail, now i own a 03 f-350 king ranch dually, havent got my trailer as of yet, cause i want to get the right one 1st.,now is 40' single wheel tri-axle dovetail, rated at 21,000lbs,going to be ok running various types of hotshot freight, or should i go to a tandem axle dual wheels, and will it put me over the 65'length for the law.now my last question is say i got the 21000gvwr tri-axle,and my duallys gvwr  13500,what would be the most on weight i could haul and be legal,i am new to this, but want to get all my cookies in the jar before i get started, need and will take all the advise i can get on startup.  thanks u all

Bobby that's a tough question and one I fought over a long time. It really depends on what you are going to haul. If you know you will need the 40 or 40plus then that is what you need. If you are going to haul any autos then you will need a dove. It really depends on what you are going to haul. If most of your freight won't fill a 40 trailer then no need to get a 40.

thanks john,i think i am going to go with a 40 lowboy tri axle with 7,000lb axles, rated at 21,000,whats your opion on this i could still haul flatbed freight, and its low enough to haul auto's etc,and still hopefully carry about 15,000 tops on freight and be legal

Hey Bobby I know Gary over at M&H logistics uses the lowboy triple axle trailers. Right now I have a 28ft flatbed gooseneck. It works great. Problem I am having is having loads to use it. Most of my loads fit in the back of my truck. I probably use my trailer 1-2 times every other week. I have not run into the problem of needing more trailer but one time and I rented a trailer for that load and still made money. I don't want to have to pull around more trailer than I need and be wasting fuel. Good luck.
