i have a 2006 c-15 cat and my fan clutch came apart and went thru the radiator at about 110k. i had to pay 1500.00 in labor and they furnished the parts . about a month later i was informed of an update {not a recall} . i contacted the people about getting reimbursed and was told it was an update not a recall and that i should have contacted them before it came apart and they would have replaced it. heres the thing how would i know to contact them ? dont you think they should send the update out to the the people that buy the over priced trucks from them ?instead of us having to search for them ? if anyone else has encountered this problem please contact me i am still trying to get my money back. |

Its been a while sense I turned wrenches on trucks but I never liked Horton fan clutches. I have seen a lot of problems with them. If they get enough problems with a certain model, they will come out with a recall or TSB (technical service bulletin). If you purchased the unit new, the dealer should write it up as warranty repair. Investigate and dont give up. Good luck. |

Horton has been having problems with their product since at least 2003. I purchased a group of trucks with Horton clutches and had over a 30% failure rate in the first two years. Horton did step up and cover a lot of the costs but I still had a lot of downtime. When I ordered 2005 model trucks Horton came to me an put in writing a 5yr/500k warranty program. Based on this I ordered new 2005 / 2006 trucks with the Horton fan clutch. When I started having failures in the 200k mile range and I requested warranty coverage under our agreement, Horton fired the sales rep who gave me the letter and denied all claims. All manufacturing companies have problems time to time. The companies I want to deal with are those companies that support their customers and admit their problems. Horton is one of those companies I do not want to do business with in the future because of their lack of support and unwillingness to support their product. |

I found this website while I was doing a search for something else. I know your post is old, but if you are still having problems, let me know. I have a solution. I work for a company that rebuilds Horton fan clutches, and provides rebuild kits. Check out my website, and watch the video that says "does your fan clutch fail too soon". www.kit-masters.com |

Have you been able to resolve this problem. I have been contacted by an owner operator who has now replaced the Horton Fan Hub for the second time in less than two years. I am not experienced with the mechanical problems involving diesel engines and the adjacent systems, however, have worked around the trucking industry prior to college and law school. It seems that there has been a significan problem, based upon what information has been supplied to me with the Horton Fan hub used on Peterbile trucks with CAT engines. Let me know your story as it appears both Horton and Peterbilt have been non responsive and I am attempting to determine if this problem would justify legal proceedings to obtain resolution. Please respond to turkeyhunter65@hotmail.com Thanks, should you have any questions please advise. |

Well, I have an 04 C-15 with 150k and the fan clutch(Horton) has gone out. I heard that these clutches aren't good. Went to a shop and was told they would rebuild it with a Kit-Master kit because the Horton does not seem to hold up. |

I have four horton fan hubs. 100% failure rate. Including recons and "updates." No letters from Peterbilt. Horton did respond to a nasty email I sent by saying that the new EGR "high underhood temperatures" caused the failures. I truck in Alaska where a hot day is 75 degrees. I have been trucking for 26 years. Horton needs to do something different. |
