Hi, Totally new here. I have my class A CDL, but am looking at getting a used dump truck, as our area is growing like crazy! I was wondering other than the normal things to look for on a tractor, what else I should be looking for when buying a used dump truck? I'm a little unsure and dont want to buy a piece of "junk" Also, is there a website for Used Dump Truck Values? Thanks.

The only real differnce you need to look for in a dump truck compared to a road truck is that it is not under spec'd for off road. A dump needs to have double frame,heavier rears(at least 38) and transmission(at least 13 gears +). Places to check for wear are the steering box,steering linkage and suspension, look for cracks in the springs and on the frame. That is about it.

FYI: Be careful and always dump on a level area

 You need to determin the work areas you intent to enter . you may need rears as heavy as the 58.000 pounders we use. A good thing to check is the gear ratios , stick to the lower side . Look close at the piston and dump pins. You will see alot of oblong ones on used dumps. Pay close attention to the dump body floore ...some used trucks have newer floores welded on top of old ones and this adds needless pounds. Don't even bother with single frame trucks and pay real close attention to the springs, spring hangers and area of frame near the spring  mounts.   I have a mack tandem for sale with less then 85,000 original miles for sale if your interested. it's located in N.J. email tonys14@verizon.net
