advise for newbie

am getting ready to attempt going to school in jan 2009 but keep getting told by the school that need a pre hire or letter
of intent so can get my federal finacial aid released to pay for my schooling. other question is i have 2 past conviction
in 2000 for 2nd degree assualt and registered handgun on person both misdemeanors.tried but keep getting
turned away i think my charges are effecting me. last question i have also looked into a local school in baltimore
called all state career they claim do not need pre hire and can get me a job with no problem even with my past record
but will have to pay for school myself federal aid will not pay for that school.any word on this school good or bad.
and about tdds tech inst in lake milton ohio that is the orginal school want to go to.appreciate any advise can give me
good or bad. will take all help , advise and/ or suggestions
