Advice for new hot shot O/O's
Posted: Thu Jan 27, 2005 12:34:36 AM

I run an FLD112 Ftlnr & 48 ft step deck spread axles out of Seattle, Wa in the eleven western states.

I've noticed a huge increase in the number of one ton hotshot truck operators here on the west coast.

Please be advised that states like Oregon, Washington & California take notice when your parked in rest areas sleeping in the backseats of your truck.

An officer can and will issue you an hours of service citation and another for not having a sleeper equipped truck.

I learned the hard way.

If your running a particial of freight thats paying you $400-$800 you'll lose money big time.

The minimum logbook fine in California is 1285.00 as of July 1 2004. Other states are eyeing these vehicles harder now too.

If your serious about hotshot work, look long and hard at purchasing a used single axle tractor to pull your goosenecks with.

And save your one ton duallie for hauling your camp trailer out to the lake, you'll come out ahead in the long run.

Oh yea, motel rooms add up real fast too!

Hi there,

Could you please send me url's on sleepers for a 1 ton f/b ford f350, I am tired of DOT messing with me.

I know of cowtown in FT Worth, let me know if you have any others.

Thanks
