2007 ? C15 MPG
Posted: Thu Jun 26, 2008 6:17:26 PM

I am posting to try to help my dad stay in business. He purchased a 2007 pete 379 in April 2007, was promissed 6-8 mpg and has had miserable mpg. He has had in to 5-6 shops and there is something funny going on!? Everybody is telling him something different. One shop says his ECM is very hot. Another replaced the fuel pump because it was internally leaking. Also another tells him he has to spend $1500 for a special computer code to fix. Cat does not give a $@#t, records indicate all warranty repairs but no recurring problems as he has reported to certified Cat tech's. Anyone have similar problems and/or fixes?

I have had about the same problem as your dad.  I pull a 48ft spread axle flat with a conestoga type system witha 06 379 Pete.  The local CAT shops do not know much about these motors, accept how to change parts and take your money.  I originally had a 475hp setting with a mpg around 4.8-5.0.  After about 50,000 miles I had it turned to a 550hp with a "heavy haul" program in it which brought my mpgs to 5.5-5.8.  The big factor in this is how fast does the truck run.  I set my cruise at a max of sixty...no matter what state I'm in.  Recently I have installed A FASS fuel system and high flow mufflers on the truck.  I haven't had them on long enough to give a true answer, but I'm guessing I should be around 6.0-6.5mpg.  Give me shout if I can help anymore.
