Being somewhat new to the industry & not wanting to be swayed by salespeople, I could use some help on proper equipment set up. Looking for a daycab [hopefully new on all items] to haul a 35 or 50 ton landoll sliding axle trailer [317c/318c or 410].Maybe Xl specialized [slider XL 110 or xl 70].Most hauls will not reach full trailer capacity, but would like to have that option if needed. Mostly flatland hauling in the southeast.ANY SUGGESTIONS on set up, such as engine brand,H.P.475+, rear axle weights, gear ratio, transmission [10,12, or autoshift?] would be greatly appreciated. At this current time I have no brand loyalty but I am leaning towards MACK,NOT SURE ON ENGINE. Thanks for your time. |

Steve, I need a little more information before I can advise you. Are you going to be off road or not? what will the average distance of a haul? What type of roads will you be mainly on? What commodity will you be transporting? Why are you only thinking a day cab? not a bunk? Why are you leaning towards Mack? Why are you choosing a landoll? |

Majority of hauls will be on paved [hwy] roads. Most pulls would be under 100 miles one way.Freight would be forklifts over 10k lbs or even multiples of smaller units. Forklifts will be primary freight. Planned on moving some construction equip. for locals and maybe some 20/40ft containers [local] as secondary work. Day cab, mainly because want to haul local enough to be home w/family and less weight at scales. As far as the truck is concerned I want the best value [service, warranty etc] for the money.I see lot more Macks hauling [locally that is] equipment. Trailer; Landoll seems to have alot more standards that are options on other sliding axle trailers. They have a good [low] load angle and versatility as for as tilt angle and dock loading ability.[xl spcecialized is also noted to have same attributes]. I really have no brand loyalty so I am open for any insight. Thanks. |

To be honest, you done good onyour choices and i would choose what you have chosen. With what you have told me I would go with 400 or so for an engine,mack...I would spec 40K rears, 44 would be an over kill...transmission is really preference....i like 13 speed or 18....i think the 18 would serve you good on the road and if you ever had to deliver to a job site or off road but, again it what you prefer as a driver |
