On October 4, 2002,in Livingston, Texas, I rented on my American Express (U Haul doesn't take checks) a 14 ft.U Haul truck with an auto transport for a woman and her son. We, along with some other folks (including churches, ours included) had been helping them for about two months. They turned up here in Onalaska, Texas down and out. She said they were going to stay with her mother and new stepdad who allegedly live here on Lake Livingston in one of the lakefront subdivisions while she was waiting for her Social Security Disability to be approved. She told us that didn't work out so they were "on the street". The First Assembly of God Church here gave them enough money for one month's rent in a apartment and for electric deposit. We got the apartment furnished via a post on a local message board, John and I gave them groceries, gas, etc. Members of our congregation gave them bedding, dishes, etc. After about six weeks, they disappeared. Then, on October 31, 2002 she called and said she was at the Huntsville, Texas police station to use the phone. She said they had started back to Kerrivlle where they were originally from and their car was overheating and she didn't think they could make it. My husband and I own an R.V. Park and marina and have cabins. I told her to come back here to Onalaska and I would put them in a cabin for a couple of nights until we could raise the money for a U Haul. They did. On October 4, 2002, I called some business associates and other churches and got commitments of funds to help defray the rental costs. After commitments from others, that would leave our contribution to the truck rental cost at about $180.00 so I took them to the rental dealer and rented the truck. They were to take the truck one way to Kerrville, Texas. Then they were going to go back to Fredericksberg, Texas where, she said, they had once lived and where he had been in school and she had worked for a nursing home. Tonight I got a call from Kathy Beason, U Haul office in San Antonio looking for the kid who gave his driver's license to UHaul since he would be the driver. She told me the truck is six days late and is stolen as far as they are concerned. We need to find this truck and hopefully, these people. HER NAME IS DEBBIE RUTLEDGE...AS FAR AS WE KNOW. SHE IS IN HER LATE THIRTIES (I think), TALL, SLENDER, LONG BLONDE HAIR, WELL MANICURED NAILS. HER SON IS BRANDON, AGE 19, SIX FOOT, 225-230 POUNDS, BROWN CURLY HAIR. THIS COULD BE VERY COSTLY FOR US IN CONTINUING CHARGES UNTIL TRUCK IS LOCATED, NOT TO MENTION ANY ATTORNEY FEES WE MIGHT HAVE TO PAY. IF YOU SPOT THIS NEW UHAUL WITH AN AUTO TRANSPORT TOWING AN OLDER BLUE BUICK WHICH IS MISSING A FRONT BUMPER, PLEASE CONTACT KATHY BEASON, 1-800-292-7442 AND US AT THE EMAIL ADDRESS ABOVE OR AT 936-646-3787. We will appreciate any help you truckers can offer. Also, if you are member of a church, expecially in a small town, you might do well to tell them about these people, as they contacted just about every congregation here before we started to help, for cash.THANK YOU FOR LETTING US USE THIS BOARD. LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU.LYNN
