From: Kelly Lehman CommentsWhere are you located and looking to run loads from? In California there does seem to be a pretty well-saturated field. However running loads from east to west seems to need to be covered much better. Might not need to have an office on the east coast to accomplish. Many trucks are on the east coast and cannot get back in a timely manner. Might consider that aspect. Also might consider working for a larger firm rather than on your own. Lot less hassle. Most work for commission when they do that. If you set something up in the near future with runs east coast to west coast, let us know. Kelly LehmanPhantom Cowboy Express Last changed: March 24, 2004"10 Meter" Radios?????????From: Radio Ray CommentsLots of drivers like the "10 Meter" radios found in some truck stops and CB shops because, once modified, they offer up to 420 channels in several"banks" and, often much more power than a standardCB. One of the favorite "channels" happens tofall in the lower end of the allocated 10 meterAmateur band. Up until recently, that didn't present much of a problem. Unfortunately, now ithas. It goes without saying that operating on theham bands is illegal without a license, but the hams are livid over the intrusion into 10 meters by truckers. The other thing is that a Mr. RileyHollingsworth was appointed Legal Counsel to theFCC's Enforcement Bureau, and he happens to be aham as well. Due to domestic AND foreign com-laints of interference to the 10 and 12 meterbands, he promised in 1999 to go after illegal op-erators according to a plan laid out by him at many hamfests and forums. That plan has now beenfollowed, and quite a few CBers and truckers havebeen warned and/or cited for operating without licenses according to FCC's website, on www.arrl.org, and www.rainreport.com., there are over 20instances of CB operators being warned (first offense) about it. They also cited several truckstops and plazas for selling non-approved radiossuch as certain Galaxy, Connex, and Magnum DeltaForce radios. If you have one of thoseMr. Hollingsworth acknowledges that FCC was "AWOL"for over 10 years, turning a blind eye to the goings on on CB. However, that has had to change due to complaints from the rightful, licensed users of frequencies now being usurped by illegaloperators. Quite a number of those licensed usershave begun to monitor their frequencies while traveling, locating truckers who are operating outof band, recording their conversations, taking pictures of the truckers--sometimes with the mikesup to their mouths--and sending the information toMr Hollingsworth. He DOES follow up, and many ofthe letters have gone out to the drivers' employers holding them responsible for their drivers' actions. I am only posting this to give drivers a heads up. These days, operating a radio OFF the 40 channels carries risk that it didn't used to. Thelegal users of those "extra" channels--particular-ly the licensed hams--are pissed off about the illegal intruders and are working to get this stopped. The fines can run up to $10,000 and jailtime! Think that can't happen? Think they can'tfind you? Not so. Technology is extremely advanced, and they can find ya, mobile or not.Think they can't or won't DO anything? Recently,there was a CBer in Florida that made a habit ofoperating on the 10 and 2 meter ham bands, toldthe hams to go jump, and that nothing could be done. FCC issued a fine of $10,000. He laughedand kept on interferring and operating his illegalradios. He was arrested last fall, tried this last June 19th, and found guilty of 4 counts ofillegal radio operations. As he was when first arrested, he was denied bail and led back to hiscell in CHAINS and LEG IRONS!! He faces 8 years in prison and up to $100,000 in fines. Not typical, but shows what CAN happen.Take the information, think about it, and decide if YOU could afford to pay $10,000-or lose yourjob if your employer got fined.73RadioRay |
